LG Han, the celebrated mind behind the one-Michelin-starred restaurant Labyrinth, is famous for his inventive culinary creations, including the unique chilli crab ice cream that turned heads in the food world. Now, he’s taken on a new challenge—reinventing the much-loved zi char dish, har cheong gai or prawn paste chicken. On July 5, Har Har Chicken opened at Junction 8 in Bishan, aiming to bring a fresh twist to this popular dish.
Har cheong gai has always been a favourite at zi char stalls, known for its crispy batter and juicy, flavourful chicken. With Har Har Chicken, LG Han and his team want to make this dish the star of the show. This isn’t just another food kiosk; it’s a collaboration between some well-known names in the food scene. LG Han is joined by chef and social media personality Lennard Yeong, restaurateur Tay Jianli, who used to run Momma Kong’s, and Bevin Desker, the former head of corporate development at food tech company TiffinLabs.
At Har Har Chicken, the focus is on getting the basics right. The Har Har Wings are fried to perfection in a special prawn paste batter, making them crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. If you’re looking for something more filling, the menu offers different rice boxes. The Saver Box, which comes with one wing and your choice of chicken rice or fries, is a good option for a light meal. If you’re hungrier, the Har-ty Double Wing Fry Box with two wings or the Har-ty Boneless Thigh Box with boneless chicken thighs might be just what you need. These boxes come with tasty sides like a fried egg, mini popcorn, or achar slaw.
Har Har Chicken is all about taking a simple, beloved dish and giving it a fresh, gourmet twist. With LG Han leading the way, this new spot is sure to become a favourite for anyone who loves prawn paste chicken.
