The Michelin Guide is set to launch its first edition in the Philippines in 2026, focusing on Metro Manila and Cebu. This marks the first time the guide will evaluate Filipino restaurants, recognising the country’s culinary scene on a global scale.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco emphasised the significance of this development, highlighting that food is central to Filipino culture. She encouraged global tourists to explore the Philippines’ diverse culinary offerings.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, also noted the unique diversity of the Filipino dining scene, from innovative young chefs in Manila to diverse experiences in Cebu.
The introduction of the Michelin Guide is expected to elevate local dining standards and boost tourism, with gastronomy as a major draw. The guide’s presence underscores the evolving Filipino dining scene and the global recognition of Filipino chefs, as seen in the accolades awarded to Filipino-owned restaurants abroad like Soseki Modern Omakase and Kasama.
The guide will be released digitally at the end of 2025, making it accessible worldwide through Michelin’s website and mobile apps. This digital approach aims to broaden the audience, attracting both local food enthusiasts and international tourists.
